Trick R Treat

The Story: In writer-director Michael Dougherty's fright fest, Halloween's usually boisterous traditions turn deadly, and everyone in a small town tries to survive one night in pure hell ... but who will still be alive in the morning? From Netflix

Um. Yeah, so..

We just need you to watch this. Seriously, if you're going to watch a horror film on Halloween, it should be this one. It's freaky. We loved it.

Margin Call

Saw this today with the sister. It was great. In a semi depressing kind of way, but totally worth the watch. AMAZING CAST!! If you have a theater near you that plays smaller films check it out!

The Story: A thriller that revolves around the key people at a investment bank over a 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis. from imdb.com

30 Days of Night

Since Halloween is getting closer, I thought I'd post this review again because 30 Days is my all time favorite vampire movie!

  (just don't watch the sequel)

The Story: A small Alaskan town goes dark one month out of every year. With daylight gone, a vampire clan moves in to wreck havoc on the town.

I love horror movies, but I’m also a big chicken.  I’m talking bed full of stuffed animals, room half lit with night lights kind of scaredy cat. I blame most of my chicken-ness on my older sisters allowing me to watch Interview with the Vampire when I was young. It freaked me out, and since then so has every other vampire movie that I have ever watched.  Especially 30 Days of Night.

The Vamps in this movie are louder, scarier, and more violent than any other vamps I’ve ever seen.  Not only do these things just look freaky, but the sound they make when they cry will chill you to the bone.

Another plus for 30 Days, is that there is a descent story here. Not just vamps running around eating people. Just make sure you're not eating when you watch it.

If you liked: Underworld, Trick R Treat, I am Legend, Daybreakers

Dream House

The Story: Soon after moving into their seemingly idyllic new home, a family learns of a brutal crime committed against former residents of the dwelling. from imdb.com

A and I hit up the double feature last night because we're just that cool. We caught the eight o'clock showing of The Thing - my selection - and it did not disappoint. But we ended up unknowingly saving the best for last.

Dream House is an uplifting horror movie. Yeah, you read that right. I haven't seen one this good in years. Supernatural horror is not my cup of tea, but movies like this one are the reason I always end up giving in. When done right, there's nothing like it.

For some reason this one hasn't been doing too well at the box office. My guess, it's because of a lack of advertising. If your local theatre is still playing Dream House, go see it now. If not, save it to the queue. You won't be disappointed.

What Goes Up

The Story: When New York newsman Campbell Babbett (Steve Coogan) is sent from the city to the sticks to cover a local hero celebration, he becomes a hero of sorts after he takes interest in a group of discontented, confused high school students. But soon, Campbell gets entangled in a web of lies and misplaced sexual desire. Helmer Jonathan Glatzer's wry feature debut set in the 1980s co-stars Molly Shannon, Hilary Duff, Olivia Thirlby and Josh Peck. From Netflix.com

I've never been very good at explaining this movie. It's like the Breakfast Club meets Empire Records meets Imaginary Heroes meets St. Elmo's fire, and yet it's like nothing I've really seen before.

Also, I'm a Hilary Duff fan. There I admit it. She's a total nut in this film. LOVE IT!

Summer School

The Story: When school lets out for the summer, gym teacher Freddy Shoop (Mark Harmon) can't wait to hightail it to Hawaii with his girlfriend for a vacation. But when the teacher who's supposed to teach remedial English (director Carl Reiner) wins the lottery, Shoop gets roped into the job. The misfit students aren't too happy to be there, either, so Shoop resorts to bribery to get them to come to class and crack the books From Netflix.com

I found this movie on a family vacation. It was the only thing that played on the movie channel and I'm not much for family vacations. By the end of the trip I found a rental store that sold it, and Summer School has been making me laugh ever since. So watch, and enjoy.

Warrior

The Story: Brothers Tommy and Brendan come face to face with each other for the first time in 14 yrs at Sparta, a round robin fight tournament with a 5 million dollar prize.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!

Liz and I have officially moved to California (woot, woot!) Other good news, we live within a 1 mile radius of two movie theaters, and a blockbuster. My life is complete.

Anyway, we've seen three movies this month: Colombiana, What's Your Number and Warrior. Columbiana was awesome. Zoe Saldana was majorly bad-ass and the film was packed with action greatness. What's Your Number was seriously funny, but when is Anna Farris ever not funny? Also, they showed every naked inch of Chris Evans that they could legally show (major plus!). Then we saw Warrior and it was so much better than I hoped. Here's six reasons why you people should watch this movie ASAP.

6. Best fight scenes I've ever seen.

5. House fans will be happy to see Jennifer Morrison ( Dr. Cameron)

4. Best fight scenes I've ever seen.

3. Tom Hardy.( Great actor, beautiful man, and seriously huge.)

2. This isn't just another fight movie. It's a gritty family drama.

1. Nick Nolte gives the performance of his career.
