KillShot

The Story: Carmen and Wayne, a married couple on the verge of divorce, become the next targets of a mafia hit man and his zealous, but inexperienced, new partner.

We don’t fully understand why this film got a limited release in the United States.  It has all of the major elements of a hit film: a great cast, well written story, good set, and cool stunts.

This is one movie that all of you should see.

Mickey Rouke’s performance as the hit man will give you chills. Thomas Jane and Diane Lane should be paired as a couple more often, and Joseph Gordon Levitt does psychopath so well that you almost don’t recognize him at first.

JGL also earns the move a  plus for being thrown out of a second story window, onto a Gazebo.

Brothers

The Story: Brothers is the story of a modern military family grieving the loss of a
husband and father who isn't really dead and a solider who will do anything to get back to his home.

When I saw the previews for Brothers I thought, no way am I seeing that one. Sure it’s got a great cast, but a story like that cannot end well, and a bad ending ruins it all for me. Allie rented it anyway. She’s more of a gambler than I am when it comes to movies.  She also has a thing for Jake G, but I digress. So, Allie ended making such a big fuss about how great the movie was, that I agreed to watch it, and it paid off. Brothers is outstanding!

Brothers is so much more than the previews give it credit for. The relationships in this family are raw and intriguing. It holds nothing back.

What really makes this film is ten-year-old Bailee Maidson’s performance as Toby and Natalie’s oldest daughter. This little girl is one heck of an actress. She will make you laugh and cry in the same scene. We definitely think this movie and its stars deserved way more attention during awards season this year.

Eight Below

The Story: An unexpected snow storm forces an Antarctic explorer to leave his team of sled dogs to fin for themselves, and he will do whatever it takes to bring them home..

Sexy Paul Walker + the hilarious Jason Biggs + super cute snow dogs, what more could you ask for? Oh, I know, a movie actually worth watching? GOOD NEWS! Eight Below is just that.

I recently added this movie to my extensive Paul Walker collection, cause who can live without an incomplete collection? I forgot how good this movie was, and not just Paul, the whole cast, especially the cute pups, brings their A game. It's quickly becoming my first choice whenever I want to watch a movie.

Eight Below is a classic adventure movie.  It's exciting and fun. There's a big snow storm, people falling through frozen ice, and killer seals that try to eat the dogs. In addition to all that, we get a moving story of loyalty. Walker's character lives for his dogs, and he will do anything to get back to them. Finally, we get a brave story of survival as the dogs, who are used to being cared for by humans, become responsible for their own well-being .

Another plus, this movie is safe to watch with your parents and your little kids. It is 100% mother approved.

TGIF

Happy Scary Movie Day!
Just saying Friday the 13th sends a chill down my spine. I'm glad it doesn't come around that often. One thing is for sure, I make sure never to babysit when it does, just to be safe. No matter what your plans for tonight are, at some point you will be perusing the horror section of your local buster.

To make your movie selection easier, I have some suggestions for you.

The safe bet is a classic, Poltergeist, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Candyman and The Hills Have Eyes will definitely make you sleep with a light on. I still don't like watching Halloween at night because Michael Myers scares the living daylights out of me. There's just something about his mask that unnerves me. Then you've got Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, Scream, Saw (just the first one) and American Psycho that are a bit newer, but still classics in there own right.

Now, if you're looking to take a chance on something new I have two categories for you to choose from. The first being creature features. It's a lists of ghosts, goblins, and all things that go bump in the night.

Creature Features
The Uninvited, The Descent,  The Haunting, 30 Days of Night,      Darkness Falls, Devil, Paranormal Activity 2 , Cursed, Anaconda,          Cloverfield, The Relic,  The Breed (2006), The Ring, The Lost Boys, Jaws, Snakes on a Plane, The Faculty.

My second category is bad guys. There's only one thing that truly terrifies me, a psychotic killer. The horrible things that people will do to one another is what gives me nightmares. Now, I've broken this category down into 2 sections. First is Carnage Candy, these are the movies that you should not eat while you watch. Second is Super Scary Thrillers, these movies will spook you, but not make you wanna puke.

 Carnage CandyThe Collector

The Hitcher  (2007)

Defiance

The Story: Four Jewish brothers escape from Poland into the forests of  during World War II to lead a band of resistance fighters and create a safe haven for Jewish refugees. From Netflix.com

And yes, its based on a true story.

Its kind of hard for me to watch war films, especially if they are somewhat historically correct. I already know what's going to happen. I mean, no matter how you spin it, the Titanic always sinks.

Lucky for me, Defiance is not just about the war.

This is about a group of people struggling to live their lives, while a war just happens to go on around them. These peoples story, their journey, is unbelievable. Its both breathe taking and heartbreaking.

Defiance is a deeply character driven drama and it's lead by three fantastic actors. Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell play the Bielski brothers. Each one of these actors give their best performance to date,

This movie totally proves that Daniel Craig can be so much more than James Bond.

Princess Diaries 2

While I am a fan of the first Princess Diaries, this one is my favorite. I watch it every Sunday at work, seriously, EVERY Sunday. I have a problem.

The Story: Princess Mia has one month to get married or she forfeits her crown to someone else.

Don't worry, you don't have to have seen the first one to understand this movie. They do a very nice re-cap. in the opening seen.

What I love about this movie is the concept.

WARNING HERE BE SPOILERS!

Girl falls for boy while planning her wedding to someone else.

I've seen several attempts at this concept, but no one does is as good as PD2. Another plus, I don't feel like I'm watching a kids movie when this one is one. This movie has it all, great story, beautiful set, and  an awesome cast.

So watch PD2 and see Ann Hathaway and Chris Pine before they were big stars.
