It’s award season again and that means one thing to me. A bunch of artistic films are about to be praised for being extremely complicated or overly dramatic depictions of “real life” or for being just plain weird. I’ve seen a few of the films nominated for Best Picture this year and ended up asleep by the time they were over. So, I was a bit hesitant to see The Fighter
I gave in this weekend and IT WAS OUTSTANDING!! The Fighter is the best movie I’ve seen in a while. I’m not usually a fan of sports flicks, but it’s not just about boxing. TF is about a guy trying to pursue his dreams while keeping his dysfunctional family intact. Yes, this movie is based on real life but it doesn’t try to exaggerate the drama.
What adds to the greatness of this film is the cast. These guys are perfect together. Christian Bale is almost unrecognizable as Dicky Ward. He deserves every award that he’s nominated for. This movie is a true testament to his talent. The same can be said for Mark Wahlberg. He completely fades into his character. I saw him as Micky Ward and not as himself trying to be this character, which isn’t always the case with him. I love to hate Melissa Leo, and who knew Amy Adams could be so such a badass!
So if you haven’t seen this one yet get to your theaters ASAP!
