Man on a Ledge

The Story: As a police psychologist works to talk down an ex-con who is threatening to jump from a Manhattan hotel rooftop, the biggest diamond heist ever committed is in motion...from imdb.com

Just left the theater and had to tell you guys how much I loved this movie. Why might you ask? It's got everything I love all wrapped up in one film. It's a contained thriller inside a heist film inside a cop drama and it reminded me how much I love Ed Harris.

So if you're going to the theater this weekend watch it, because we've all seen Taken. Everyone already knows that Liam Neeson is a bad ass.

The Kill Point

The Story: When a bank robbery goes wrong, the thieves lock down the bank. They will do whatever it takes to keep the cops outside and their hostages inside.

Thank you Spike TV for bringing me this wonderful series. Not simply because it has Donnie Wahlberg in it (LOVE him) but because it is an action junkies dream. Bad ass bad guys,  a hard nose detective who will do whatever it takes to save the day, explosions, gun fire, and double crosses. I also like seeing the robbery from the hostages point of view, because they don't all behave how I would expect.

If you like a good cops and robbers story then I know you will like The Kill Point.

Here is a link to the trailer on imdb.com . I would post it on here but my computer is hating me.

Death Race

The Story: Ex-pro racer Jensen Ames has just been convicted of murdering his wife, and is being sent to the most vicious prison in the country.  How very convenient for Warden Hennessey to have another driver to compete in her prestigious Death Race

This is Jason Statham’s best movie. He looks amazing, kicks major butt, and totally nails this role. Like most of the other movies we like, Death Race’s casting is perfect. Tyrese is a total badass as Machine Gun Joe; and Joan Allen has ice water running through her veins as Warden Hennessey. All good movies hinge on their casting.

Nevertheless, we love DR for its gut-wrenching, no holds bar action. The things that they blow up and the way they kill people is amazing. The fight scenes alone are more intense than the usual Statham film. Now don’t worry, there is a plot and it will make you want Statham’s character to kill everyone that stands in his way.

This is by far the best action movie ever.

The Newtown Boys

The Story: Four Texan brothers ignite a crime spree in the 1920s, robbing more than 200 banks across the nation -- without ever killing anyone. In a career highlight, the unexpectedly compassionate team pulls off the largest train robbery in U.S. history. from Netflix.com

The Newton brother's is based on a true story. These boy's were robbing banks a few years before Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd made it a fad.

This is a great movie to watch with dad, or grandpa, or younger boys who are "too old" for cartoons. It's rated PG-13 only because of a bloody shootout (bloody for 1998) and a little bit of language.

The best thing about this movie is that it pulls off both a western and heist film beautifully. Albeit, a bit slowly. So, if your wanting an action packed ride you might be a little disappointed, BUT, nobody blows a safe like the Newton Boys.

Warrior

The Story: Brothers Tommy and Brendan come face to face with each other for the first time in 14 yrs at Sparta, a round robin fight tournament with a 5 million dollar prize.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!

Liz and I have officially moved to California (woot, woot!) Other good news, we live within a 1 mile radius of two movie theaters, and a blockbuster. My life is complete.

Anyway, we've seen three movies this month: Colombiana, What's Your Number and Warrior. Columbiana was awesome. Zoe Saldana was majorly bad-ass and the film was packed with action greatness. What's Your Number was seriously funny, but when is Anna Farris ever not funny? Also, they showed every naked inch of Chris Evans that they could legally show (major plus!). Then we saw Warrior and it was so much better than I hoped. Here's six reasons why you people should watch this movie ASAP.

6. Best fight scenes I've ever seen.

5. House fans will be happy to see Jennifer Morrison ( Dr. Cameron)

4. Best fight scenes I've ever seen.

3. Tom Hardy.( Great actor, beautiful man, and seriously huge.)

2. This isn't just another fight movie. It's a gritty family drama.

1. Nick Nolte gives the performance of his career.

The Losers

The Story: A CIA black ops team is betrayed and left for dead, so they set out to find the man responsible.

Hollywood has been putting comic books on the big screen for almost as long as it’s been around. When they stick to the classics, it’s great. Where would supper blockbusters be without the Superman and Batman franchises? In recent years, however, they’ve been going over comics that we normal people have never heard of. Liz and I are not so into this. Watchmen was weird and long. Sin City was depressing and gimmicky. Don’t even get me started on The Sprit. For these reasons, and others, Liz and I tend to stay away from anything based on the graphic novel. Lucky for us, we had no idea that The Losers started out as one.

The Losers has everything you want in a big action flick. The tough, yet wounded hero and his cool posse, a super-evil, super slime-ball villain, and thirty minutes of explosions. It’s good on the story front as well. It held our attention the whole way through. It’s also very believable when you put it up against other graphic-novel-to-feature films. Plus, The Losers has some decent one-liners and a hot chick, for those of you who are into that sort of thing.

We also love The Losers for its characters. They’re interesting and memorable without the whole I crush cans on my forehead for no reason vide you can sometimes get from action flick characters. It helps that the actors playing these characters are pretty decent. They have a good onscreen chemistry too. Chris Evens and Columbus Short bring some welcomed comedy to their characters. Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba pull off a fight scene with some awesome stunts. Altogether, The Losers is the best action movie I’ve seen in years.

Zombieland

The Story: An anxiety-ridden nerd teams up with a wild warrior to survive in a post-apocalyptic world that's filled with flesh-eating zombies.

For most of my life, I have avoided the zombie movie bandwagon, avoiding films like 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead. I know people who swear that my life is incomplete with out them, but to tell you the truth, I’m just not that interested. Zombies are ugly and gross and all RAAH! I don’t need to see someone eating someone else’s intestines. No thank you. So, imagine how surprised I was at myself when I popped Zombieland into the DVD player. Very surprised.

There are two reasons why I decided to watch Zombieland. One, Allie liked the cover box and decided we should watch it. Allie has a thing for movie covers. If it looks good, she’ll watch it. If someone makes a complete and utter flop of a film about day lilies in their garage on a hundred dollar budget with the worst actors ever, Allie will watch it knowing all this as long as the cover box is visually appealing. I blame cover boxes and posters for 90% of the movies on the Do Not Watch list. The second reason I choose to watch Zombieland is even simpler. Nothing else was coming out at the Buster that weekend.

So, into the DVD player went a movie that I was already pre-programmed to hate, and you know what? I love-loved it. If approached with the right attitude and narrator, zombies are hilarious. Watching Woody Harrelson bash in their skulls with a banjo is pretty entertaining as well. What impressed me most about Zombieland, however, was the fact that there was a pretty good plot tied in with all of the gruesomeness. Plus, the four main characters are likable and real. Zombieland rocked.

We give Zombieland an A plus for being a movie that anyone can enjoy. It’s been out on DVD for over six months, and I’ve never once had a customer say anything negative about it. Ever. That is a rarity. People hate on everything except for Zombieland and The Lion King. Go figure.

Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)

The Story: Run-down Precinct 13 is about to close its door forever. But everything changes when some of Detroit's most lethal prisoners arrive. Soon, the only thing more dangerous than the criminals on the inside is the rouge gang on the outside. To survive the night, two men on opposite sides of the law will have to work together to battle an enemy who doesn't follow the code of cop or criminal (from back of dvd box)

Yes, this is a remake of a John Carpenter film. No, I haven't seen it.

Five reasons to watch this movie

5.  It's an action junkie's dream: shoot-outs, damsels in distress, explosions, chases and double crosses.

4. Good concept. I like the whole, criminals bring the fight to the cops thing. Makes it different from most cop dramas.

3. Amazing cast. John Leguizamo always gives good crack head. Flashpoint fans see if you recognize Hugh Dillon (super love him!)

2. It's a fast movie. Perfect for a small bladder and short attention span.

1. Lawrence Fishburne is a BAMF.
He lights some dude on fire, and I like it.

Armored

The Story: Ty is the new guard for an armored truck company. When his veteran co-workers try to involve him in an inside heist, Ty has to make a hard decision. Will he go along with them and take the money, or will he risk his life to stop them?

Money can turn best friends into worst enemies. At least it does in Armored.

This is not your typical heist movie for two reasons. First, the line between the good guys and bad guys is thinner than Sarah Jessica Parker. Secondly, the audience follows the heist in real time, which builds some intense tension throughout the film.

Armored is by far, my favorite heist movie, mainly for its simplicity. The writer follows the most important screenwriting rule: don't waste the audience's time. This movie will grab your attention in the first ten minute and won't let it go until the big finale.

Eight Below

The Story: An unexpected snow storm forces an Antarctic explorer to leave his team of sled dogs to fin for themselves, and he will do whatever it takes to bring them home..

Sexy Paul Walker + the hilarious Jason Biggs + super cute snow dogs, what more could you ask for? Oh, I know, a movie actually worth watching? GOOD NEWS! Eight Below is just that.

I recently added this movie to my extensive Paul Walker collection, cause who can live without an incomplete collection? I forgot how good this movie was, and not just Paul, the whole cast, especially the cute pups, brings their A game. It's quickly becoming my first choice whenever I want to watch a movie.

Eight Below is a classic adventure movie.  It's exciting and fun. There's a big snow storm, people falling through frozen ice, and killer seals that try to eat the dogs. In addition to all that, we get a moving story of loyalty. Walker's character lives for his dogs, and he will do anything to get back to them. Finally, we get a brave story of survival as the dogs, who are used to being cared for by humans, become responsible for their own well-being .

Another plus, this movie is safe to watch with your parents and your little kids. It is 100% mother approved.

Defiance

The Story: Four Jewish brothers escape from Poland into the forests of  during World War II to lead a band of resistance fighters and create a safe haven for Jewish refugees. From Netflix.com

And yes, its based on a true story.

Its kind of hard for me to watch war films, especially if they are somewhat historically correct. I already know what's going to happen. I mean, no matter how you spin it, the Titanic always sinks.

Lucky for me, Defiance is not just about the war.

This is about a group of people struggling to live their lives, while a war just happens to go on around them. These peoples story, their journey, is unbelievable. Its both breathe taking and heartbreaking.

Defiance is a deeply character driven drama and it's lead by three fantastic actors. Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell play the Bielski brothers. Each one of these actors give their best performance to date,

This movie totally proves that Daniel Craig can be so much more than James Bond.

The Next Three Days

Oh Russell Crowe. I've had a few ups and downs with this guy. Gladiator and State of play being the ups, and Robin Hood and Tenderness being just painful.

Robin Hood was so painful that I almost didn't watch The Next Three Days. Luckly, this is an up for Crowe.

The Story: John Brennan's wife has been accused of murder, but he is unwilling to let her spend the rest of her life in jail.

Two reasons to watch TN3D are Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde. I'm a huge fan of both ladies and they are excellent in this movie. Banks gives her best performance to date.

Perhaps the best thing about TN3D is that I felt like I was helping Brennan free his wife. I was right beside him every step of the way.

Check out this clip of Liam Neison emparting his jail breaking expertise to Crowe, and you'll get an idea of what you're in for.

Battle:Los Angeles

Its Here! FINALLY!!!! I feel like I've been waiting to see this movie for years.

It was totally worth the wait. I laughed, I cried (freaking kids man, they always get me) and I saw some awesome alien killing action.
If you've been living under a rock, here's the story. The world is being invaded by aliens. They've struck several major cities simultaneously. We get to follow a unit of Marine's as they attempt to save civilians and kill some aliens in LA.

Favorite part, the Marines rip apart one of the aliens and play where does it hurt, so they can figure out how to kill these things.

So walk, don't run, down to the Malco and see this movie! Go, now.

SWAT

A suspended SWAT officer gets another chance when an old school commander puts together a elite special weapons and tactics unit.

I get a lot of hate for liking this movie. I just don't get it. I mean, this is the quintessential cop drama. You've got actors who I'm pretty sure were born in some sort of uniform. Then you've got the evil bad guy who is begging to be killed by the most violent means imaginable. Add in some witty banter, cool car chases and the double-cross you see coming and you've got an action lover's dream.

So to all of you haters out there, suck it. I knew that Jeremy Renner was capable of greatness before any of you saw the Hurt Locker

BTW this movie has one of the coolest (and biggest) shoot outs that I've seen in an action movie. Enjoy
